That's the Power of Pine-Sol Baby

3 Blogging Mistakes to Avoid | TalentZoo.com

A few months ago I was asked by my team to take the handle for all social media tools associated with our company, mainly our Linkedin, Facebook, and Twitter accounts. Thankfully not a blog because a blog itself is its own job. But as I was doing some research on social media I ran across this article on Talent Zoo which got me thinking about my own blog. 3 Blogging Mistakes to Avoid | TalentZoo.com

It showed me my faults as a blogger and helped me focus on whats important. Here are some things that I have learned:

  1. have a passion and purpose for your blog
  2. Be consistent and make a blogging schedule.
    1. How often will  you post a blog or video?
  3. Make it interesting!
  4. Improve your writing
  5. No anchor-text spamming or any advertising that turns words into links for advertising
Lesson Learned!!

"I am on a Horse ....Cow"

via Adfreak

I don't know if I told you this but I was obsessed with the Old Spice campaign with Isaiah Mustafa. Now Sesame Street came with their own version. It is just too cute and Grover teaches children about the word "on." Now can you see the influence Advertising has on us, our children, and culture.

A-Freakin-Mazing! gotta love the world of Advertising.

Panasonic Releases a Hair Washing Robot

Panasonic showcased their robot hair washing machine to the public at the 37th International Home Care and Rehabilitation exhibition in Tokyo on Thursday, September 30th. Why would they make this right?

Well Japan's growing elderly population has left pressure on workers in hospitals and health care facilities. They call them the "silver generation." Anyways I doubt they will be the only users and consumers using it (maybe the rich and famous...well most likely).

Imagine yourself sitting in a reclining chair (like something you would use at the dentist's office). Relax and lean back while the robot uses 3D imaging to scan your head. This will allow the robot you measure and memorize the shape of your head for a better experience. Now imagine 16 human-like fingers massaging and washing your hair. After all is done, a nice rinse and your done!

This all sounds good until the robot rips off a poor elderly woman's hair from her scalp.

Meet the New Twitter

Twitter is getting a much needed makeover finally.  Its the new streamlined screen with easy clicks and shortened profiles. "You will now find @mentions, retweets, searches, and lists just above your timeline – creating a single, streamlined view on the left of the screen. On the right, you can see the features you’re familiar with, including whom you recently followed and who recently followed you, favorites, and Trending Topics."

No longer will you need to click on a link and view it on a separate page. Images and links are easily viewed directly on twitter. Twitter worked with  Dailybooth, DeviantArt, Etsy, Flickr, Justin.TV, Kickstarter, Kiva, Photozou, Plixi, Twitgoo, TwitPic, Twitvid, USTREAM, Vimeo, Yfrog, and YouTube to make this feature.

Some will start seeing the new twitter tonight!...other in a few weeks (blah)

Check it out! #NewTwitter

Google makes Email Easier

Google

Checking your emails are dreadful. We all know about the spam folder but sometimes it doesn't catch everything. Sometimes it really can't be considered junk mail but its not important at the time either. Google released Priority Inbox to separate all the important emails from everything else. As time goes on Google will keep track of which emails you open and reply to in order to filter your emails better. If you need to follow up with an email or get to it later you can just click the star and it will noted.

Google Blog

You can customize how your emails are filtered. If Google misses anything important or unimportant then you can label it. Gmail will continue to get better as emails come in and monitor your email responses and sorting.

It only gets better!

Who Needs a Snuggie When You Can Sleep with Snazzy Napper

Snazzy Napper
Honestly where do they get these ideas?!?! To look absolutely ridiculous wear this. This makes all the other infomercial products look normal. So instead of looking like a monk you can now wear a Muslim burqa.  Classy right?

Bad idea. I would provide a link to their website but I do not encourage anyone to buy this.

They Don't Sneak Diss. 1800 vs. Patron

Wowzers. I just saw the 1800 ad campaign to Change the Game (released August 2009) and it came hard. Created by Agent16, the $15 million campaign was launched September of 2009 with TV spots on cable television (such as ESPN and Comedy Central) and a sponsorship of the Los Angeles LakersNot only do they say they are the best premium tequila but Soprano actor Michael Imperioli kicks a patron bottle off the table.

“In this economy, we don't think consumers need to pay an arm and a leg for great tasting tequila. This new ad campaign is about reminding people that they can buy the real deal – 1800 Silver Tequila – and have just as much fun.” says a Proximo spokesperson. "Unlike Patrón, which was started by a co-founder of a hair care company in 1989, 1800 Silver Tequila has nine generations of distilling expertise behind it, and is a family-owned brand of superb quality 100% Agave spirit,”
Yes I know I'm late about blogging this but I just had to. Nothing better than aggressive campaigning. More brands should this just as Team Jacob and Team Edward, iPhone vs. Blackberry, Mac vs. Apple rivalries. It makes for better entertainment and brand loyalty.

After saying goodbye to the Free Credit Report name we also said goodbye to their band. The Martin Agency in Richmond, Virginia will be responsible for the $10-15 mill campaign that will have various tv spots, radio, and even made into ringtons. All jingles will be written by the Martin Agency's Dave Muhlenfeld, and Experian will own the publishing and recording copyrights, just as it was with FreeCreditReport.com

The Prehistoric Romeo and Juliet

As I was searching for pictures of people hugging for my last blog post, I found this. Its an old story from 2007 but new to me. This is no fake or Photoshop its 100% real.

Before Romeo and Juliet, it was them. The young couple died together embraced. Arms and legs wrapped around each other face to face. Archeologist, Elena Menotti and her team led the discovery of this couple in Mantua, Italy 25 miles from south of Verona, the city of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet.

"The two bodies, which cuddle closely while facing each other on their sides, were probably buried at the same time, possibly an indication of sudden and tragic death" Bondioli said.
I wish I knew more about this couple and how they died together. It would have probably made the best love story. Maybe better than Romeo and Juliet, Wuthering Heights, Casablanca, and Pride and Prejudice? I'd say it could be possible just by looking at this picture without even knowing who they are or what actually happened. Its amazing after 5,000 years they are still holding each other.

Sometimes, a Hug is All What We Need

One Campaign I will love forever is the Free Hugs Campaign started by Juan Mann. You must listen to his story! When feeling all alone he knew that just a hug would make everything a ton better. In a world of disconnect this did the most good for the cost of nothing!

When I visited Chicago with the Michigan State Advertising Association I saw a man with the "Free Hugs" sign. It wasn't Juan but I hugged him anyways. Some walked by but many went for hugs. It was great.

Check out the video

Also the song is great "All the Same" by Sick Puppies. The song was donated by them to the Free Hugs Campaign.

Food Whispering Your Name?

We all feel that way. I know my snacks and goodies call my name from other rooms maybe even from other states. Hell I'll eat even when I'm not hungry. I don't have self control. If I want it I'll do it without any thoughts. I realized that its probably not the smartest thing and that we should all evaluate out eating habits and lifestyle. So I decided this year to actually take this "lifestyle change" seriously. But like any drug addict, I relapse when coworkers ask to order food or during weekend outings. We all get weak and fall for it too many times. Somethings that helps me is reading statistics on obesity that relate to me. Maybe this can help you

  1. Blacks had 51% higher prevalence of obesity, and Hispanics had 21% higher obesity prevalence compared with whites.
  2. In 2009, no state met the Healthy People 2010 obesity target of 15%, and the self-reported overall prevalence of obesity among U.S. adults had increased 1.1 percentage points from 2007
  3. Percent of adults age 20 years and over who are obese: 34% (2007-2008)
  4. Risk Factors for Overweight and Obesity are type 2 diabetes, coronary heart disease, high LDL ("bad") cholesterol, stroke, hypertension, nonalcoholic fatty liver disease, gallbladder disease, osteoarthritis (degeneration of cartilage and bone of joints), sleep apnea and other breathing problems, some forms of cancer (breast, colorectal, endometrial, and kidney, complications of pregnancy, and menstrual irregularities
  5.  Over two-thirds of U.S. adults are overweight or obese
  6. Over one-third of U.S. adults are obese
  7. Only 31% of U.S. adults report that they engage in regular leisure-time physical activity (defined as either three sessions per week of vigorous physical activity lasting 20 minutes or more, or five sessions per week of light-to-moderate physical activity lasting 30 minutes or more). About 40% of adults report no leisure-time physical activity.
  8. On average, people who are considered obese pay $1,429 (42%) more in health care costs than normal-weight individuals.
Information provided by Weight-Control Information Network and Center for Disease Control and Prevention

Now if that doesn't help try fooling yourself thin. Here are some tricks and tips to stop you from snacking on junk.

  1. drink tea before a meal
  2. do not eat out of the box! pour it into a small bowl (kid size is best) and eat from that
  3. craving chocolate? don't buy candy bars. Buy chocolate chips, preferably dark chocolate chips
  4. if you can't stop eating chocolate stick it in a freezer. You'll have to wait for it to thaw. Hopefully by then you will convince yourself that you don't need it
  5. chew gum (classic trick)
  6. ask someone to hide the food you shouldn't be eating
  7. Check out the Subway Greasy Fast Food Commercial or Subway 1812 Overture or Subway "What Does the Combo Come With?"
  8. Read Skinny Bitch by Rory Freedman and Kim Barnouin
This should help. If #7 cant help you, I don't know what will!

Best Summer Love (or Fling)

Summer is almost over but Photobucket has a new contest:

Best Summer Love
"Show us pics of YOUR summer romance or that one summer fling. It can even be love with friends or family. May the best pic win!"  says Photobucket.

Currently #1

Nike Kiss

Hurry you only have 4 days! Go to Photobucket and upload your most loving picture to enter into the contest.

Nothing Like Savings at Noon

Everyday you can save up to 70% (maybe even more :)) off on designer brands. Websites like Ideeli.com and Gilt.com lets me get the best brands for an affordable price. Designers such as Michael Khors, Marc Jacobs, Rachel Roy, Dolce and Gabbana, Gucci and many many more.  Screw going to the mall and paying full price I'd rather shop at my desk.

But make sure you are on that website exactly at 12:00 pm! everything goes pretty quickly and once its sold out its really sold out.

See full size imageI know this sounds perfect, but like all great things, it is a little to good to be true. You can't return most items. Maybe you don't like the style anymore, its too big, its too small, or you found something better. Doesn't matter, no take backs. There a very few items that you can return and the website will
See full size imagedetermine if they can take it back. I bought two items that I wish I could return. I did get this blue hobo bag and realized the strap to go over my shoulder was uncomfortable and wide. I also purchased a pair of Poetic Licences heels that are too big! I love the shoes but obviously can't do anything about it :( Another con is the shipping. I haven't tried the shipping with Gilt but Ideeli can take up to a month to ship! There is
express shipping available but nobody wants to pay more than they have to.

They also have deals on monthly subscriptions, home, and children tabs. Gilt has a gift tab that gives great deals on gift items. Jetsetter which is also with Gilt is another website that offers great deals on hotels. Think of the most luxurious resorts and spas in the most beautiful spots around the world. Yup they have it allllll

Does anyone know of any other websites like this? What did you buy? How do you rate it?

I Poo in Blue

When shopping for baby diapers, mothers tend to buy products that make clean, dry, and happy babies. Let's just say Huggies took it to another level when they released jean diapers in May. For a limited time, Huggies promises "it's the coolest you'll look pooping your pants." Kimberly-Clark says to have already sold 2 million packages in North America. Pretty good eh? Keegan Coulter, Brand Manager at Huggies says the jean diapers are "doing fantastic."

How is P&G going to compete? They already had some issues with their Pampers Dry Max diapers. Associated Press worked on a story about Consumer Product Safety Commission investigating complaints made by parents saying the diapers gave their baby's rashes. Already being criticized on social media, this story would take it to local tv.

I haven't seen a baby yet in these diapers but I hope I get that chance. I've seen them in diapers with little cartoons or designs but never a denim look. Check out JWT's commercial for the jeans. Click Me!

But now it gets me wondering is this really for children or something adults to enjoy? but I guess if you have to poop your pants at least look cute doing it.

Coffee Making for Dummies

Today my boss had an important meeting in the conference room and asked me to make coffee for the attendees. I said sure even though I've never made coffee before. How hard can it be?

Well my boss came back for the coffee and saw that I was struggling to make it. He checks it out and told me  I forgot to add water. Talk about simple and stupid! Gosh I was so embarrassed. The boss-man had to make coffee for his own meeting!

I pretty much knew all the basics like 1. pull the top and take the old filter and coffee out 2. add a new filter and ground coffee then snap the top back in 3. press start! Well I missed a couple of steps and figured/ hoped that I wasn't the only person who didn't know.

So here are the real directions to brewing coffee in a drip coffee maker:

  1. Remove the carafe and swing out the basket (whats a carafe? I have no idea!)
  2. Place a filter in the basket and add ground coffee. Approximately one heaping tablespoon of ground coffee for every cup of coffee you want to make.
  3. Swing the back basket into place, and fill the reservoir with water. Approximately one cup of water for each cup of coffee you want to make.
  4. Place the carafe back into the machine and turn it on. (it must be the pot. why can't they just say pot? I've never heard someone say carafe)
  5. Coffee should be brewing!! *crossing fingers*
  6. Enjoy!!
  7. keep the carafe in the machine to keep warm but not to long so that it gets bitter

With having coffee on every corner this probably isn't important information. But to avoid my situation, I would learn it just in case!

The Man I Want My Man to Smell Like is Leaving

"Well friends like all great things, this too must end" says actor Isaiah Mustafa of Old Spice (what a hottie). The man your man could smell like gives a farewell to all his fans on Youtube.  Old Spice took over social media when they allowed anyone to comment and ask questions to Mustafa. Around 184 responses were made to bloggers, twitterers, and youtubers who contacted Old Spice. Even celebs like Perez Hilton and Demi Moore had to participate!

This was probably one of the best social media campaigns ever.   Wieden + Kennedy pulled this off perfectly and the content was never lacking. Fans do not want to see this go but as Mustafa says "I am just one ridiculously handsome man. I can't write to everyone."

Argentina! First Country in Latin America for Same Sex Marriage

Icon of man and man holding hands (SVG conversion)Image via Wikipedia

In Buenos Aires, Argentina on Wednesday
July 14, 2010, the proposal for gay marriage was approved. It was a long battle but supporters of the bill won. Both sides rallied and demonstrated outside Congress until the decision for same sex marriage was made (Around 16 hours long!!). This approval will grant all married gays and lesbians the same rights as any heterosexual marriage. Civil unions have been allowed in some states in Mexico and legalized in Uruguay. Its not just about civil union in Argentina! They can also adopt children and inherit wealth.

Now not all lesbians and gays can hop on a plane and get married in Argentina.

"Argentine wedding plans, since only permanent residents and citizens can wed in the country, and such paperwork can take years to obtain. While it makes some amendments to the civil code, many other aspects of family law will have to be changed." says The Huffington Pos

Congratulations to Argentina for recognizing equality. You have much to celebrate!

Chris Brown Redeems Himself on BET Awards

The sole purpose of watching the BET Awards was for Prince! I LOVE him. He is a true artist that knows all about innovation, branding, and style. I knew everything else on the award show would be trash. Well at least thats what I thought until I saw Chris Brown's performance.

Last year, Chris Brown did not participate in BET's tribute to Michael Jackson. We all know why, unless you've been living under a rock but just to be clear, he beat the crap out of Rihanna. He made many efforts to apologize and move past the incident but nothing seemed to work. Stations and other media outlets refused to play his music or work along him. But I really believe this performance saved his life and career!

Chris Brown idolizes Michael Jackson. His whole presence as an artist is clearly influenced by Michael Jackson. When he didn't get the chance to show his appreciation and respects to Michael, I felt sorry for the fella. Chris Brown did an amazing job. The best Michael Jackson tribute I've ever seen. The dancing was amazing! But what makes it even better was the emotion. You could feel Chris Brown's love for Michael and what he did for music. When it got time to sing "Man in the Mirror," Brown choked. Filled with emotion and tears, he couldn't even sing. Brown struggled the words out "I'm staring at the man in the mirror. I'm asking him to change his ways." Great song choice for a guy thats trying to change and saw the error in his ways.

Evian Goes Viral

Drink Evian. Live Young.

Well thats what they claim at least with their babies on skates. Some say that "going viral" wasn't the best idea. But how can you argue with dancing babies on skates? I think this was a deadly combination.

But the real question is: Will this make you want to drink Evian? As cute as this is, maybe its not suited to sell water. But it doesn't stop me from playing it over and over and over...

Take a look
